The BCIR1 connects to any BC4/BCX unit with serial I/O capabilities. A remote IR receiver “eye” will provide an additional option.

Field-upgradeable firmware will allow installers to define macros to be executed when a particular IR command is received. These commands can be executed on the local BC4 or on remotely located BC4s via Ethernet. BC4 macros may also be launched by using any of the other available communication methods, such as HTTP, TCP, UDP, or RS-232.

“By accepting IR input and processing on-board control macros, the BC4 becomes incredibly powerful in standalone applications,” said Lance Beck, CEO of Bitwise Controls, in a statement. “It can also be a very effective way to expand existing control systems, where adding an entire dedicated processor might not be cost effective.”

The BCIR1 is scheduled to be available by the end of 2008. According to the company, the BC4 is the only Power over Ethernet-capable product of its type on the market. Designed for compatibility with all popular control systems, it incorporates features like configurable analog/digital GPIO, relay outputs, an IR engine with massive preprogrammed library and learning, and a powerful two-way command protocol.
