Calypso Control Systems, a manufacturer of open-architecture control products, and NexLight, a subsidiary of the Northport Engineering group specializing in low-voltage light control systems, have paired up to take the guesswork out of the installation and operation of integrated room control. Together, the companies will provide dealers and AV integrators with centralized control of various room technologies, including lighting and AV devices.

Company officials said the collaboration addresses the requirements of state-of-the-art presentation tools used in boardrooms and meeting rooms. The first phase integrates traditional switching control used for lighting and extends to controlling various motor controllers used for operating screens, curtains, and dimming capabilities.

“Calypso’s open architecture approach to device control is the key to total room control–from lighting, to projectors, screens, and even curtains,” said David H. Parish, president of Calypso Control Systems, in a statement. “On an open architecture platform, NexLight and Calypso technology come together to amplify the benefits of each solution and put streamlined room control at the touch of a button.”

Room control is centralized through Calypso’s CB-5000 wall-mount touch controller, which officials say requires little-to-no training for presenters to manage room lighting, incorporate information from multiple AV tools into the discussion, and toggle between media inputs. Intended for multimedia presentation rooms, a pre-set feature allows IT directors or users to simultaneously engage multiple room devices and bring each to a predetermined state.

“We continue to hear how it’s becoming increasingly important that all systems are integrated–from AV to lighting and security,” said Loren Beilke, president of NexLight. “We’ve taken great pains to ensure that our systems work together both form a physical interface level and sharing data.”

Once installed, Calypso’s controller is configured for a room’s specific needs using a Web-driven event database to design sequences of control triggers and actions. Rooms already equipped with either Calypso or NexLight products can be upgraded to achieve the benefits of the integrated solution without replacing existing equipment.
