CEDIA Unveils 2002 Home of Electronic Lifestyles

The Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association unveiled its 2002 Home of Electronic Lifestyles just prior to the opening of CEDIA EXPO 2001, its custom electronics industry trade show. The showplace home demonstrated the ultimate in home-systems integration.

The showcase home featured 18 of the country’s hottest custom electronics manufacturers, designers and installers, spotlighting the industry’s cutting-edge products and integrated systems. The showcase was designed specifically to illustrate the reality of today’s trends in custom electronics. Following its appearance at CEDIA Expo 2001, the home is travelling to various trade shows through next year.

CEDIA’s executive director, Billilynne Keller, says that homes similar to the association’s showcase home will soon be commonplace for many consumers: “By integrating electronics systems, it’s possible to use a mobile phone or the worldwide web to turn on the lights, cool off the house and start some soothing music — or to create any other such system based on what a specific consumer desires. Be it automated drapes, a dedicated home theater, or a fully integrated home, the reality is that these custom systems are already being designed by CEDIA members every day. The consumer, in a sense, can now buy a whole new lifestyle.”

Like the “Home of Electronic Lifestyles,” a home with an integrated system has a central control panel to operate applicable systems, including entertainment systems and complex subsystems such as lighting, security, heating and cooling. Integrated systems manage repetitious tasks, including arming the security system, turning off unnecessary lights, setting thermostats, turning off appliances and much more.

CEDIA’s 2002 Home of Electronic Lifestyles was sponsored by these manufacturers: Acoustic Innovations Inc.; Yamaha Corporation of America; Axiom Design Inc.; AMX Corporation; Audio Design Associates Inc.; California Audio Technology Inc.; Capitol Sales Company Inc.; CinemaTech Seating Inc.; iCEBOX LLC; Harman Consumer Group; H-P Products Inc.; Lutron Electronics Company Inc.; NetTV; Niles Audio Corporation; Rosen Products LLC: Runco International; Sony Consumer Integrated Systems; and Stewart Filmscreen.

The Home of Electronic Lifestyles was located at the entrance to the show floor, where additional highlights were to be seen. Among these was CEDIA’s Garden of High-Definition Delight, where attendees could view the various display options that are now rolling into the market today and the introduction of new products by more than 400 participating exhibitors.
