The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) announced that Kevin Martin, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will be featured at the Industry Insider Series at the 2007 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Produced by CEA, the 2007 International CES is the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow. CES will be returning to Las Vegas Jan. 8-11 to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

FCC Chairman Martin will join Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CEA, for a one-on-one discussion of issues vital to every segment of the technology industry, including the digital television (DTV) transition and broadband deployment. Martin’s session is slated for noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10 at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), North Hall N257. This will be Chairman Martin’s second Industry Insider appearance at the International CES.

“Chairman Martin has been instrumental in bringing the benefits of consumer technology into the hands of Americans through his support of industry competition and the advancement of new technology,” Shapiro says. “We are thrilled to have the Chairman return to the International CES as an Industry Insider and look forward to hearing his candid views on the DTV transition and other key issues facing our industry.”

Chairman Martin was nominated by President Bush and was sworn in on July 3, 2001. He was designated chairman on March 18, 2005. Chairman Martin was re-nominated for a second term as commissioner and chairman by President Bush on Apr. 25, 2006 and was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on November 16, 2006. Before joining the FCC, Chairman Martin was a special assistant to the president for economic policy. He served on the Bush-Cheney Transition Team and was deputy general counsel for the Bush campaign. Prior to joining the campaign, Martin was an advisor to FCC Commissioner Harold Furchtgott-Roth and also served in the Office of the Independent Counsel.

Chairman Martin joins Cisco President and CEO, John Chambers and Nokia President and CEO, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo as confirmed 2007 CES Industry Insider speakers.
