Fifty percent of American buyers’ dollars for large-format flat screens are going to the largest models, according to Pacific Media Associates (PMA), a California-based market research firm. “Buyers are snapping up models at prices of as much as $16,800 for the largest, 61-inch [models],” says PMA President William Coggshall. Regardless of the size of the display, it was found that buyers are willing to pay more for more pixels. XGA and wide XGA models sell for street prices that represent $150 per diagonal inch or more, whereas wide VGA models don’t bring much more than $100 per diagonal inch.
