The first Cabling Skills Challenge hosted by BICSI will invite information transport systems (ITS) installers to test their skills and knowledge as they compete for the title of Installer of the Year. The contest will be held in conjunction with the evening exhibition sessions during the 2008 BICSI Spring Conference, April 27-30, at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn.

Contestants will be chosen from a field of entrants based on qualifying criteria such as professionalism, quality of resume, and work experience. Over the course of the three-day challenge, they will compete in six events, including Structured Cabling Systems Installation, Copper Cable Terminations, Fiber Terminations, Cable Assembly, Cable Troubleshooting/Technical Support, and a Competency Exam.

The scoring system will be based on resume, orientation attitude (attendance and promptness), safety, tools and equipment, attention to detail, and aesthetics. Competitors will also be scored throughout the competition on professionalism. Awards will be distributed in a ceremony on Wed., April 30, during the closing session of the conference.

The deadline for entry is March 15. For more information, go to www.bicsi.org/skillschallenge .
