Lowell Unihorn Gains UL, CSFM Listings

Now listed with Underwriters Laboratories as a product in full compliance with the fifth edition of UL 1480 and UL 2043 (air handling) in its compact, self-contained design, the latest version of Lowell's model LUH-15T Unihorn is now shipping. The 15W environmentally-resistant horn has also been listed with the Office of the California State Fire Marshall (CSFM).

The new UL and CSFM-listed Unihorn joins the existing Unihorn model LUH-15T in Lowell's 2006 product catalog, and must be specified as "UL" when ordering. Both models are universal-use compression drivers measuring a mere 3 3/4in. deep in weather-resistant housings with grille.

"The Unihorn's UL and CSFM listings reinforce Lowell's commitment to providing the industry with code-compliant and easy-to-install products," says Lowell President John Lowell. "The Unihorn satisfies safety requirements and redefines how a horn can blend aesthetically and easily into traditional outdoor, and even indoor applications."

The Unihorn was engineered with a narrow profile to fit into 4in.-deep spaces, with or without a backbox. It features holes to mount a standard grille for 8in. speakers, yet includes its own architecturally-preferred aluminum grille that measures only 9.6in. in diameter and has no exposed hardware.

"Packaging the horn with its own press-fit grille represents a significant change for the industry, as it allows the horn to be mounted aesthetically without a backbox, which is a real cost savings," Lowell adds. "For vandal-prone applications, an architectural 9.6in.-diameter cast aluminum grille—model LUH-VRG—may be specified, as can the traditional Model SQLK8L, a 9.5in. square grille for 8in. speakers."

Ideally suited for standard or supervised paging as well as signaling, the Unihorn performs as well as it looks, with 15W output and high sensitivity measuring 105dB at 1W/1m. The Unihorn provides clear voice intelligibility with smooth, even coverage. A simple two-wire connection scheme and dual-capacitor circuitry further complement the design.
