Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America displayed several new products at InfoComm 2008; among them was an eye-catching 80-inch video wall.

The MegaView video wall cube measures 80 inches diagonally and was designed specifically for large command and control centers. With SXGA+ resolution and a brightness of 190 cd/m2, it’s well suited for data walls, especially in situations where viewers sit far from the screens. Black Bead screen technology offers high-contrast black levels, while Dynamic Brightness Balancing automatically adjusts the image for uniform brightness. Likewise, Smart Lamp and Smart Colorwheel technologies maintain color uniformity across the wall, according to the company.

One of the most unique features is how the cubes open from the front, providing easier access to the engine for maintenance and reducing the cost of ownership. An exclusive automatic lamp-changing unit senses a lamp failure or when luminance changes, decreasing the downtime due to a failed lamp.

There were several other new products showing, including the XD500U-ST DLP short-throw projector. Located above a whiteboard, it helps users avoid inconvenient shadows during presentations. The filter-free, XGA-resolution projector comes with a one-year lamp warranty and Texas Instruments’ latest version of BrilliantColor, for 2,000 lumens of brightness and a 2,500:1 contrast ratio. The projector is available this month for $1,299.

The XD530U DLP is a wireless projector with XGA resolution and 3000 lumens of brightness. Users can project wirelessly by downloading special software from Mitsubishi’s Web site and following the step-by-step instructions. Accepting DVI among its inputs, it will project native digital signals in full HD resolution. The XD530U has a retail price of $4,995.

Displaying for the first time at InfoComm was the 140-inch LED Resolia, a large-screen monitor designed for indoor signage. “We’ve received a great response to our Resolia LED big-screen and we’re excited to show it off to our InfoComm audience,” said James Chan, director of marketing, Mitsubishi’s Presentation Products Division.

The Resolia is a pre-packaged design with a plug-and-play-style setup. Rather than custom build the screen in-house and deconstruct it for shipping only to reconstruct it on site, Mitsubishi ships the screen in one piece, but it can also be broken down into two pieces for tighter transport. Its thin body and front and bottom hardware allow it to be mounted flat, inclined from walls, or hung from ceiling. Currently available, the Resolia is listed for $399,000.
