According to research firm displaySearch, there’s a possible tipping point in our future. It’s the year in which OLED displays for TVs will finally outsell OLEDs for non-pro AV applications that attract the most attention today–namely mobile phone and media player displays.

According to DisplaySearch’s Q1 2009 “Quarterly OLED Shipment and Forecast Report,” the total OLED display market will grow from $0.6 billion in 2008 to $5.5 billion by 2015. The latter’s also the year the company expects TV to be the biggest revenue-generator among OLED applications, pulling down $1.92 billion by itself. Growth is being driven by active-matrix OLEDs, leading to more manufacturing capacity.

“AMOLED displays have become an important differentiating factor for high-end electronic products,” said Jennifer Colegrove, director of display technologies at DisplaySearch.
