Pacific Media Tracks Record-High U.S. Channel Sales for Front Projectors

Pacific Media Associates, the global market information experts on large-screen displays, reports that unit sales of front projectors actually sold through resellers and retailers to final buyers hit a new monthly high in June 2006 and registered a 29% increase compared with June 2005. Pacific Media’s “Composite U.S. Channel Trends” report also shows that strong upward growth during the three months of the second quarter lifted total quarterly unit sales to an all-time high. Pacific Media is in a unique position to track the front projector market, as it has the highest overall coverage ratio for front projectors of any market information firm.

“We saw impressive year-on-year growth across the channels: Pro AV, Distribution, and Retail,” according to Michael Abramson, vice president of Pacific Media Associates. “Driving this growth were healthy demand, lower prices, and smaller price gaps between XGA and SVGA products. The lower XGA/SVGA premium continues to spark demand for XGA models, which have registered better than 50% growth on a year-to-date basis.”

With the strong demand and ahead of the fall/holiday buying season, inventories dropped to their lowest levels of the year. The drop in stock levels was particularly noticeable in the retail channel, where the supply index skidded to a low of 30 days. Day supply levels in the pro AV and distribution channels were either at or below their lowest levels of the year.
