Polycom has announced that its VVX 1500 C business media phone has been certified for use with Cisco Unified Communications Manager (UCM) 6.1 and 7.0 by tekVizion, an independent third-party lab. The company also revealed new features and functions to its SoundStation conference phones.

Polycom has announced that its VVX 1500 C business media phone has been certified for use with Cisco Unified Communications Manager (UCM) 6.1 and 7.0 by tekVizion, an independent third-party lab. The company also revealed new features and functions to its SoundStation conference phones.

The VVX 1500 C combines a personal video conferencing system with a voice over IP (VoIP) telephone equipped with Polycom HD Voice and an open application programming interface (API) for integration with key business applications.

The tekVizion certification means enterprises using Cisco (UCM) can deploy the VVX 1500 C, which the company says will increase worker productivity and reduce travel costs.

“We are excited about the Polycom VVX 1500 C business media phones now that they have been certified for use with Cisco Unified Communications environments,” said Chris Moore, CEO of Invisible IT, a Cisco UC-certified reseller in California, in a statement. “The ability to add visual communication and applications to IP phones is bound to improve productivity and create strategic advantages.”

“Polycom is working closely with tekVizion to certify a number of its SIP-based endpoints for use in a Cisco Unified Communications environment,” said Chris Freeman, vice president of business development at tekVizion Labs, in a statement.

In a Cisco UC environment, employees using the VVX 1500 C business media phone can place video and voice calls via touch screen to all of the voice and video endpoints within the network, says Polycom.

Also this week, Polycom unveiled new SoundStation conference phone features. According to the company, customer needs have evolved due to factors such as increased globalization, more dispersed workforces, and increased reliance on IP technology for communications, resulting in a new version of the SoundStation 2W with DECT 6.0 technology, as well as expanded interoperability for its SoundStation IP conference phones.

The SoundStation 2W conference phone features digital enhanced cordless telecommunications (DECT) technology, which reduces the risk of interference with wireless LANs or other wireless networks. According to the company, the new DECT 6.0 model offers the same quality voice calls as other SoundStation conference phones, but with the added flexibility of placing the call anywhere within 150 feet of the included base station.

Polycom further announced several new VoIP interoperability partners that have verified the SoundStation IP conference phones for use with their platforms. The new platforms include Avaya Communications Manager with SIP Enablement Services, ShoreTel Unified Communications solution, Siemens Enterprise Communications OpenScape Voice, Mitel Communications Director, and Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX Enterprise.
