Premier Retail Networks Announces Addition of Checkout TV to the Wal-Mart TV Network

Premier Retail Networks (PRN), a wholly owned subsidiary of Thomson, announced that it will be launching Checkout TV as an addition to the Wal-Mart TV Network. Wal-Mart Checkout TV will entertain and inform shoppers by airing engaging content on flat-screen monitors strategically located in checkout lanes of Wal-Mart stores. Checkout TV will be added to the Wal-Mart TV Network starting with eight market areas this year.
Troy Steiner, senior director of media for Wal-Mart comments, “We are very excited about the addition of Checkout TV to the Wal-Mart TV Network. Feedback from our yearlong pilot was very strong; Checkout TV demonstrated the ability to both engage shoppers and improve their checkout experience. This latest expansion of the Wal-Mart TV Network will provide a great vehicle for further instore integrated messaging.”
The content on Checkout TV is complementary but distinct from content aired on Wal-Mart TV in other areas of the store. Programming at checkout is designed to entertain shoppers as well as inform them about new products and products that are available near the checkout stand. A ticker will provide news and weather updates.
Eric Bindelglass, president of PRN, comments, “In order to maximize relevancy of Checkout TV for Wal-Mart shoppers, programming will be optimized for the checkout area of the store and be customized down to the individual store level with local programming and information. We are looking forward to rolling out this significant network enhancement.”
