Q & A: Motor Screens in Auditorium
We have 11 tension motor screens in our auditorium. Four of them have started to stick to themselves and wrap backward as the screen is coming down. I’ve heard that other people have this problem, but no solutions have been offered. Anybody have one? We’ve had to disable our room control from the screens and revert to manual switches.

A: The stickiness is caused by a breakdown of the chemicals in the screen materials. When the material gets sticky, bring the screens down to their full extension and allow them to hang for about two weeks. Then you need to wipe the screen front and back with Simple Green solution to remove all of the stickiness. Mix 10 parts water to one part Simple Green. Then, with a soft cloth, wipe the screen front and back. You may need to do this twice. Allow the screen to completely dry before returning it to its closed state.
