Smart Technologies announces that the Smart Exemplary Educator program is now open to educators from around the world. The professional development program recognizes and rewards teachers who improve learning outcomes through the innovative use of Smart products. Originally available only in North America, the program is now offered to Brazil, Mexico, Russia, Denmark, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Hong Kong, Australia, the UK, Singapore, the Czech Republic, and India. Through participation in this program, exemplary educators form a community focused on sharing ideas, best practices, activities and resources related to the effective use of Smart products in the classroom.

The Smart Exemplary Educator program is open to teachers, technology coordinators and administrators. All applicants must be able to demonstrate that they use Smart products innovatively to improve learning results and that they are committed to developing effective education practices and will share these practices with other educators. To date, almost 200 teachers have been recognized as Smart Exemplary Educators. They are encouraged to develop professional networks in their areas of expertise in order to increase product knowledge, awareness and adoption. Exemplary educators create opportunities to share lesson and teaching ideas, and participate in focus groups and blogs. They often help to evaluate new Smart products and prototypes, and provide valuable feedback. Each exemplary educator is given a complimentary copy of Smart Ideas concept-mapping software and support for professional development activities. They also have preferential access to Smart programs, including product evaluation programs, and workshops.

“Teachers around the world are leading the technology revolution in education,” says Nancy Knowlton, Smart’s president and co-CEO. “The Smart Exemplary Educator program recognizes the important role educators play in preparing students for life in a globally competitive, knowledge-based society.”

How to Apply
Interested educators can complete an online application at Smart’s education solutions website at www.education.smarttech.com/see or print a copy and mail it to the Smart distributor in their country. To support their application, educators need to submit an electronic portfolio that demonstrates how they use Smart products to inspire and engage students, and improve learning outcomes. Applications are being accepted and reviewed on an ongoing basis. Educators who meet the application requirements and demonstrate that they are professionally accomplished and enthusiastic users of Smart products in their classrooms will receive the Smart Exemplary Educator designation.
