Residential gear isn’t just for high-end homes, as many installers know. Itcan add punch to a restaurant lounge or comfort to a hotel suite. In the caseof Waterfall Audio’s Iguasçu EVO and Victoria EVO (shown), it addscreative design and style.

The French company is new to the U.S. market but already distributes to 30 countriesworldwide. Each of Waterfall Audio’s loudspeakers is handcrafted andincludes the company’s own driver designs?and they’re made of glass.

Named for the falls that border Zambia and Zimbabwe, the three-way VictoriaEVO stands 40 inches high and 10 inches wide, while the two-way IguasçuEVO?named for the falls that border Brazil and Argentina?is 34 incheshigh by 10 inches wide. Both were built using Waterfall’s exclusiveglass-fabrication technique, with the speaker cabling hidden in a basemade of die-cast aluminum to preserve the transparency. The company’s researchteam, under founder Cedric Aubriot, spent nearly five years developingnew ways to assemble glass panels to form strong loudspeaker enclosures. Theresult is an illusion of the die-cast aluminum drivers floating in mid-air.

“Our goal has always been to provide a unique visual impact with no-compromiseaudio performance,” says Aubriot. “Waterfall’s glass-loudspeakerdesigns make a lifestyle statement that is utterly unique, becausethey almost literally disappear into the room.”

The technology behind the speakers is called an Acoustic Damping Tube (ADT), whichis what allows extended mid- and low-frequency performance within anundamped glass enclosure and the downfiring passive bass drivers to extendlow-bass audio. The midrange and woofer cones are made from a proprietaryalloy, while the tweeters are coated in silk.

For the installer who prefers to stick to the pro products, keep an eye outfor the Waterfall Elora loudspeakers, designed specifically for boardrooms.

Waterfall Audio’s U.S distributor is Total Resource Distributing. The VictoriaEVOs are available for $5,995 per pair and the Iguasçu EVOsare $4,490 per pair.
