Top Global, a wireless technologies convergence solutions company, is offering its 3G routers to help people to communicate critical safety information and companies to restore their corporate networks so they can get back to business following the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

As Hurricane Katrina ravaged several areas of Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi, and hit populated areas of Florida, the employees at Top Global extend their prayers to those who are suffering from this catastrophe. In situations like this, fixed-line Telecom operators are starting to dig up buried telephone lines as they work to clear or repair property. It is a bigger problem in areas where the population density is higher with more lines buried. On the other hand, mobile operators are able to restore its network and deploy Cells on Wheels, mobile cellular units that replace regular cell towers or cell sites when these are damaged, to the mobile cell sites in hard-hit areas. This enables them to offer high-speed mobile data network services sooner than the fixed-line network.

Top Global’s MobileBridge is an integrated 3G cellular WLAN/LAN router for enterprise networking. The MB8000 features built-in LAN and WLAN interfaces, which enable enterprises with easy access to cellular data services and internet/intranet through their existing corporate LAN or WLAN network.

“Last week, we were so busy making deliveries of our 3G routers to customers in Texas, Florida, and Louisiana,” says Alan Zhou, president of Top Global. “We got calls from customers after 4:30 p.m., who wanted our MB8000 delivered by early morning next day, so that they can take it to the disaster areas for business, to save lives, and help communicate and manage the emergencies.”

These customers were able to access high-speed EVDO network using Top Global’s MB8000 in Florida and Baton Rouge, La. Some of them used the power from their automobile’s cigarette lighter to power up the MB8000 and create an instant WiFi hot spot for their laptops, so people could look up the latest life-saving information and communicate with their families and friends using email and make VoIP calls. The MB8000 is also used for communication between the relief groups, which is of the utmost importance to be able to coordinate and help those in need quickly.

“We are going to continue our efforts to help enterprises to resume their business as soon as their cellular service and power is available, so that their lost can be minimized,” says Zhou.
