There is excitement around these parts as we finalize plans for the debut of the redesigned Sound & Video Contractor website (www.svconline.com) in December. The new site will be better organized, prettier, more interactive, and, most importantly, strategically designed as a resource to offer installation professionals tools and practical information to help them make key business and technical decisions.
In that spirit, we will be making the most of the opportunities presented by our growing online capabilities with an increased selection of online exclusives each month. This will allow us to supplement the expert advice we provide in our current print columns with additional expert advice pieces. The debut of our new Briefing Room tool will make it easier to post breaking news and product releases to our site. Blogs, podcasts, and videocasts are also in the offing.
From a journalistic point of view, one of the exciting things about our evolved suite of web tools and the growing synergy between print and online products is the ability of a monthly magazine such as S&VC to provide instant coverage via our web presence. Currently on our site, for instance, you can access comprehensive coverage of the recent AES show penned by S&VC Senior Consulting Editor George Petersen. AES wrapped after this issue’s press time, but it seemed foolish to wait until the end of the year to provide insight about the audio world’s latest offerings in print. Thanks to our online presence, George’s in-depth examination of the show became available for your perusal at www.svconline.com shortly after the show.
Remote control systems, virtual reality, and webcasting are all new media technologies that directly impact how you do business. Those themes, and many others, will be explored in this and future issues. Meanwhile, we invite your suggestions for other new media topics and tools you would like to see appear in these pages, or in S&VC‘s growing slice of the virtual information pie.
