Roku has confirmed that it is looking into the influx of user complaints that a recent update has caused streamed HDR content to appear washed out. Reports began hitting the internet at the beginning of the month that their Roku TV’s image quality appeared odd. Internet sleuths were able to link the sudden issue to a recent software update. Initially, it appeared that the issue was limited only to content streamed via Disney+, but more reports revealed a more widespread issue, with the same washed out colors appearing on YouTube TV, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, and more.

The images above, posted by a Roku community forum user, show the stark difference in picture quality before and after the update. A Roku representative responded to reports on the company’s forum that it is “investigating the Disney Plus HDR content that was washed out after the recent update.” This comment was made early on, when the bug was thought to only affect Disney+ and TCL-manufactured TVs. The company has not provided a further comment since the issue was deemed to be more widespread. We will update this story as it develops.
