Anime Tokyo Night brings animation-inspired projection mapping to Naka-Ikebukuro Park

Anime-themed projection show was put on by the Tokyo government to spur nightlife and tourism

From March 15 to 23, spectators gathered nightly in Naka-Ikebukuru Park in Tokyo to watch a projection mapping show put on by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The event saw scenes from popular anime titles Oshi no Ko, WIND BREAKER, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, and DANDADAN become projected on massive screens.

Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko explained that seeing projection mapping on historic buildings during a recent trip to Thailand inspired her to plan such an event, wanting to highlight Tokyo’s nightlife to spur tourism and the local economy. As such, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government supplied eight “state-of-the-art” projection and audio systems to make Anime Tokyo Night a reality. Governer Koike’s administration also had a pivotal role in the recent Tokyo Night & Light projection show that saw government buildings become illuminated in a nightly light and music show.
