Anker issues another safety recall for five power bank models

Five models have been identified as having potential safety hazards

Just a few weeks after issuing a recall of over 1 million power banks, Anker is issuing another recall affecting five of its power bank models.

The affected models are:

  • Anker Power Bank (10K, 22.5W) — Model A1257
  • Anker Power Bank (20,000mAh, 22.5W, Built-In USB-C Cable) — Model A1647
  • Anker MagGo Power Bank (10,000mAh, 7.5W) — Model A1652
  • Anker Zolo Power Bank (20K, 30W, Built-In USB-C and Lightning Cable) — Model A1681
  • Anker Zolo Power Bank (20K, 30W, Built-In USB-C Cable) — Model A1689

The company states that these recalls are the result of “enhanced quality assurance protocols” that it began implementing earlier this year. Anker says that these protocols were designed to identify a potential defect in lithium-ion batteries from one of its vendors.

“While the likelihood of malfunction is considered minimal, out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to initiate a voluntary global recall of several Anker power bank models,” announced Anker. “We have formally notified and are coordinating with regulatory authorities in all regions to ensure the recall is conducted in compliance with all applicable local guidelines.”

Consumers are urged to check the model number printed on the back or side of their power banks to see if it is a match with one of the models above. Owners of affected devices are instructed to immediately stop using them, and dispose of them once Anker confirms that the unit is covered under the recall. This can be done by filling out Anker’s Product Recall Submission Form.

Owners of affected devices are eligible for a free replacement or gift card.
