Anker issues recall of MagSafe iPhone batteries for potential fire hazard

Owners are urged to properly dispose of affected devices, and can fill out a form for replacement

Anker has issued a recall of three of its MagSafe iPhone battery models, saying that they could be a fire hazard. “We have discovered that some of the lithium-ion batteries used in our Anker 334 MagGo Battery (PowerCore 10K), Anker Power Bank and Anker MagGo Power Bank may pose a fire risk due to a manufacturing defect,” the company says. The batteries in affected models can potentially overheat, causing the plastic casing to melt and possibly catch fire.

Anker says that only batteries produced between January 3, 2024 and September 17, 2024 are affected, but that it is recalling all units “out of an abundance of caution.”

Those who own any of the affected models are instructed immediately stop using the device and to store them in a safe location. The batteries should be disposed of properly at a facility that accepts lithium batteries. Owners can confirm their device’s serial number and fill out a form for a replacement here.
