Apple will soon be allowing video playback via its CarPlay platform, as long as the car is parked, that is. With the upcoming iOS26 software update, Apple has confirmed that it will implement video streaming from a mobile device to a car’s display, declaring that the update “enables people to watch their favorite videos from iPhone right on their CarPlay display when they aren’t driving. ”
In deeper documentation spotted by MacRumors, Apple notes that the feature, which will be supported by both CarPlay and CarPlay Ultra, will require car manufacturers to integrate ‘CarPlay with AirPlay video’. While initially this feature will require an iPhone to work, with the iPhone reportedly determining if the car is in park or in motion, it is assumed that future updates will eliminate the need for an iPhone for video playback.
