For the first time in over a decade, Apple is reportedly floating the idea of developing its own Smart TV. The company was famously considering creating its own TV throughout the 2000’s under Steve Jobs. Though the idea would eventually be nixed in favor of developing media boxes, the possibility of an Apple TV is back on the table.
Recent reports throughout the industry have hinted at Apple’s upcoming foray into smart home control, which is said to take the form of a wall-mounted tablet that integrates AI and the company’s Siri. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, if this product is successful, the company plans to venture into new territory with other product ideas–including its own TV.
Giant, ultrawide virtual displays coming to Apple Vision Pro
“If the product does catch on, it will help set the stage for more home devices,” writes Gurman. “Apple is working on a high-end AI companion with a robotic arm and large display that could serve as a follow-up. The company could also put more resources into developing mobile robots, privacy-focused home cameras and speakers. It may even revisit the idea of making an Apple-branded TV set, something it’s evaluating.”
