The display on your next MacBook may have a few new tricks up its sleeve. As first reported by PatentlyApple, Apple has just been granted a patent that would bring several new features to the MacBook, including a detachable, rotating screen.
What’s unique about this patent is that the display portion of the laptop would rotate separately from the base. More specifically, it refers to a “base portion which could be movably, pivotally, or rotatably connected or affixed to a display portion, for example, by way of a hinge assembly.” Why would this be important? The patent also covers both attachable and fixed rear-facing camera options, as well as sensors on the back of the laptop.

It could be that Apple is looking to hone in on the growing remote work market, giving users greater access to videoconferencing or presentation functions. The aforementioned rear-facing sensors that the patent covers includes an infrared camera, facial recognition sensor, or even LiDAR, opening up the MacBook to a ton of novel use cases.
