As part of its largest software design overhaul since 2013, Apple is introducing a new display technology it calls “Liquid Glass” to its devices. Revealed at the company’s WWDC conference this week, Liquid Glass will be arriving not only to its upcoming iOS 26 update, but to all of its platforms, including Apple TV and the Apple Watch. At its heart, Liquid Glass is a visual refresh that aims to give users the feeling that their apps and icons are “floating” above a surface of glass. This includes the introduction of semi-transparent icons and new glossy surfaces. Alan Dye, Apple’s vice president of human interface design, says that with this new update, interacting with a device will cause it to refract light in new ways, making it feel more responsive to the user.
