Apple’s long-rumored smart display may have just hit a snag in development. Last week, the company announced that an upgraded, more personable version of its Siri assistant was being delayed.
“Siri helps our users find what they need and get things done quickly, and in just the past six months, we’ve made Siri more conversational, introduced new features like type to Siri and product knowledge, and added an integration with ChatGPT,” Apple spokesperson Jacqueline Roy told Daring Fireball. “We’ve also been working on a more personalized Siri, giving it more awareness of your personal context, as well as the ability to take action for you within and across your apps. It’s going to take us longer than we thought to deliver on these features and we anticipate rolling them out in the coming year.”

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this setback is delaying Apple’s development of its smart display, saying that the device “relies on the delayed Siri capabilities.” The industry has heard rumblings of Apple’s upcoming smart display for the last several months, with the device said to function as a smart home hub supporting Apple Intelligence and other advanced features. For now, it seems we may have to wait a bit longer for its anticipated reveal.
