Apple to live stream NBA games in VR

180-degree virtual reality broadcasts of select Los Angeles Lakers games coming soon to Apple Vision Pro

Apple has announced that starting later this year, Apple Vision Pro owners will be able to view select Los Angeles Lakers games in 180-degree virtual reality. The games will be captured with using the new URSA Cine Immersive Live camera from Blackmagic Design, a version of the camera that launched earlier this year to capture Apple Immersive for Vision Pro.

“Viewers will feel the intensity of each game as if they were courtside, with perspectives impossible to capture in traditional broadcasts,” says Apple.

While full specs of the VR broadcasts have yet to be revealed, it is confirmed that they will be stream with a bitrate of up to 150 Mbps. After each broadcast, highlights and replays will be available to Vision Pro owners in the Apple Immersive format. The broadcasts be available over the Vision Pro’s SportsNet and NBA apps, while traditional broadcasts of the games can also be viewed on the Vision Pro via the Spectrum TV and NBA apps.
