Ascendo claims the world’s largest subwoofers

The German company has released a 100-inch home theater subwoofer

Germany’s Ascendo Immersive Audio is claiming that its new The100 Sub Pro Passive Infrasonic Sealed subwoofers are the largest home cinema subwoofers in the world, and it’s hard to argue. Coming in at 100-inches, the massive woofers are released alongside the 64-inch The64 Sub Pro Passive Infrasonic Sealed model.

To handle their large size, Ascendo says the new speakers are built with an upgraded suspension system with quad spiders to deliver “significantly more excursion,” both linear and nonlinear. The company claims that the new spiders are crafted with advanced materials to provide noise-free operation, even at extreme excursions.

Giant subwoofers require giant cabinets, and the The100 and The64 are housed in single-piece, custom-designed cabs. Optional application-specific enclosures are also available for the models, which Ascendo says feature improved internal bracing. The cabinets’ enclosure depth measured 100cm, which the company claims extends frequency response into the infrasonic range.  For greater serviceability in the field, the subwoofers include a field-replaceable re-cone kit.
