Audio-Technica launches fully-transparent turntable

The AT-LPA2's chassis and platter are fully constructed from a transparent, high-density acrylic

Fresh off the heels of debuting a $10,000 illuminated turntable, Audio-Technica is continuing to push record players in new directions by unveiling the fully-transparent AT-LPA2. Both the chassis and platter are constructed from a high-density transparent acrylic that Audio-Technica claims dampens vibrations for a smoother playback. In order to maintain the turntable’s minimalist look, playback controls and the power supply are housed in a separate unit that can be displayed side by side with the record player, or kept out of sight. The company claims that this separate housing also reduces any electrical interference that would affect playback.

The AT-LPA is a manual turntable that utilizes a belt drive for aesthetic purposes, while an optical sensor positioned under the spindle makes the sure player maintains a constant and accurate speed. Audio-Technica has also redesigned the 8.8-inch carbon fiber tonearm specifically for this model. In addition to offering VTA adjustment, the tonearm includes two counterweight options (110 g and 130 g) to accommodate other cartridges if desired.

The Audio-Technica AT-LPA2 is available now at a price of $2,000.
