It’s been a month since cybersecurity company CrowdStrike brought infrastructure around the globe to its knees, halting flights and stopping an immeasurable number of businesses dead in their tracks. It seems that the company is trying to take the incident in stride, as CrowdStrike President Michael Sentonas showed up in person to accept the award for “Most Epic Fail” at this year’s Def Con hacker convention.
“I think the team was surprised when I said straightaway that I would come and get [the award],” said Sentonas during his acceptance speech. “Because we got this horribly wrong…it’s super important to own it when you do things well, and it’s super important to own it when you do things horribly wrong, which we did in this case.”

Sentonas went on to remark that he will be displaying the award at CrowdStrike’s head office, as he wants every employee to see it as a reminder of the importance of the work that the company does, and how imperative it is that they do quality work.
