Disney launches Infinity Vision cinema certification

Infinity Vision launches to help audiences identify the best theatrical experience available to them

At this year’s CinemaCon, Walt Disney Studios announced ‘Infinity Vision’ as a new certification program for theaters that show films in Premium Large Formats (PLF), including IMAX, Samsung Onyx, and more.

Developed by Disney in collaboration with global theatrical exhibition partners, Infinity Vision is designed to help audiences identify “the best theatrical experience,” according to Disney.

During the announcement, Disney explained that the requirements for Infinity Vision certification are:

  • The largest screens for maximum scale
  • Laser projection for superior brightness and clarity
  • Premium audio formats for fully immersive sound

No mention of requirements for LED screens, such as those used in Samsung Onyx auditoriums. Currently, Disney says that there are 75 domestic and 300 global exhibitor PLFs adhering to the Infinity Vision standard.

“Disney’s standards for production quality are second to none, with every single detail of a film finely tuned for an immersive experience,” said Andrew Cripps, Head of Theatrical Distribution for The Walt Disney Studios. “Infinity Vision certification extends that commitment to the theaters themselves, representing a shared effort between The Walt Disney Studios and the exhibition community to help audiences quickly find the very best screens in their area to experience our films in exactly the way they’re designed to be seen – on a huge screen with the sharpest, clearest color and sound.”
