Dolby Laboratories has announced it is furthering its partnership with Hyundai Motor Group by bringing its Dolby Atmos audio technology to Hyundai’s first China-exclusive electric vehicle, the Elexio. Previously, Dolby Atmos has only been available in vehicles under Hyundai’s Genesis luxury line. This marks the first time Dolby Atmos is available in a Hyundai-branded vehicle.
While Dolby Atmos has been available in luxury autos costing upwards of $50,000, the Elexio is available for roughly $17,000 to $21,000. While the SUV is currently available only in China, there is a possibility of it coming stateside in the future. The immersive audio technology becoming available in a non-luxury vehicle is a sign of manufacturers’ focusing on audio and infotainment across all tiers of vehicles, as consumers are beginning to prioritize the infotainment experience when choosing a new ride.
“With streaming services such as Kugou Music and iQIYI integrated directly in the car, the Elexio occupants can enjoy music, movies, and dramas in Dolby Atmos in their cars, transforming the car cabin into an entertainment hub on wheels,” says Dolby.
