Last week saw the FCC submit a proposal fining companies $25,000 if they were found to be in violation of, or evading inquiries on, if they are marketing products that appear on the U.S. ‘Covered List.” This list includes all foreign-made drones and drone components, which covers all products manufactured by drone company DJI.
Now, the agency is taking things a step further by proposing a ban on all products by companies it suspects to be selling DJI products that have been re-shelled and marketed under another name. The FCC is specifically targeting the companies Skyhigh Tech, Spatial Hover, SZ Knowact, Cogito, Fikaxo, Lyno Dynamics,Xtra, XAG, and WaveGo, which the agency believes has been selling rebranded DJI products by exploiting a loophole in the current ban.
In a document published July 17, the FCC says it believes products sold by these companies “pose an unacceptable risk to the national security of the United States or the security and safety of United States persons.”
