Apple’s AirPlay for hotels program drummed up attention upon its announcement, allowing guests of select hotels to quickly and easily control their room’s AV experience via their phone. Not to be outdone, Google has just announced the availability of its own Google Cast in hotels, beginning this fall. The company has revealed that LG, along with Hyatt hotels, are its initial partners in the endeavor.
Tiger Lan, Google’s senior director of engineering for multi-device experiences, said, “Google Cast capabilities built into LG hotel TVs will give hotel operators the best integrated solution that reduces costs and allows guests to pick up where they left off in their personal streaming services.”
Following a software update, Google Cast will be available on its 4K 2024 LG Pro:Centric smart hotel TVs from 43-inch to 75-inch sizes. Google Cast will enable guests to quickly scan a QR code on their room’s TV to provide quick streaming for over 3000 apps from phone, tablet, or PC to the TV. The update will allow guests to use their personal device as a TV remote, and the TV will automatically reset upon guests’ checkout. LG says that the new LG Pro:Centric Smart software will enable content streaming, interface customization and even networked digital signage capabilities.
