As Gemini continues to proliferate across the entire Google ecosystem, the company has unveiled a new AI feature for headphone users: live speech-to-speech translation.
Currently rolling out in beta form, the new feature will supposedly enable real-time speech translation into users’ headphones, essentially transforming any pair of smartphone-connected headphones into a real-time translator.
“This new experience works to preserve the tone, emphasis and cadence of each speaker to create more natural translations and make it easier to follow along with who said what,” says Google.

The company positions the new feature for a number of use cases beyond the obvious in-person foreign language conversation. Watching a foreign language TV show or film with this feature enable will provide translation, as would listening to a speech or lecture while abroad. Google says it has begun rolling out the beta feature in the Translate app for Android devices in the U.S., Mexico, and India, with iOS device release slated for 2026.
