Testing and certification for HDMI 2.2 devices are currently underway, and the HDMI association is expecting the first HDMI 2.2 products to debut next year. HDMI 2.2 is said to double the bandwidth of the previous version, up to 96Gbps.
“We’re hearing chip manufacturers will start to sample their FRL2 chips this year. And so we should start to see some 96 or up to 96 gigabit HDMI 2.2 products next year,” said Rob Tobias, CEO and President of the HDMI Licensing Administrator, per ARMdevices.com.
Thomas clarifies that some products, such as those certified for the new Latency Indication Protocol (LIP), may launch later this year. Other HDMI 2.2 products that could potentially see a 2026 release include the first certified Ultra96 cables. The vast majority of products, however, such as AV receivers, TVs, and media players, are expected for a 2027 release.
