Repair specialists iFixit are leveraging AI with a new product designed to help consumers identify, troubleshoot, and repair problems with their devices. Dubbed FixBot, the new AI app can react to conversational questions spoken by the user, responding with clarifying questions, tips, and advice. FixBot has access to a library of professional device schematics, and gives users quick access to detailed repair guides.
While FixBot can be prompted via text or voice, it also allows users to take pictures of their device, visually analyzing the problem in real time. Once the issue is determined, FixBot provides users with a detailed, step-by-step repair guide. At this time, FixBot has access to the iFixit repair library, meaning some older or niche device models may not be covered. If this is the case, FixBot will defer to web searches about the product.
iFixit says that FixBot is launching for free for a limited period. Eventually, there will be a free and paid version, with voice control and document uploading eventually being paywalled behind the premium version.
