Last weekend saw a range of issues occur for some Jeep Wrangler 4xe owners, ranging from dashboard error messages to sudden losses of power and bricked vehicles. The culprit? A software update that was rolled out across the 4xe line on Friday.
Jeep owners quickly took to the internet to report their issues, with social media and messaging forums seeing an influx of posts searching for answers. An over-the-air update to the Uconnect infotainment system caused some Wrangler 4xe displays to act ‘buggy’, while other drivers reported much more series issues, including loss of vehicle power while driving. Some Jeep owners reportedly had to resort to having their vehicles towed, unable to start their cars altogether.
After the sudden influx of reported issues, Jeep pulled the update, with Stellantis urging Jeep Wrangler 4xe owners that hadn’t installed it yet to ignore the prompt that would begin installation. Sunday saw Jeep roll out a fix for the issue:
“A fix was launched after 6 PM EST,” Jeep posted to its forums. “In order for the vehicle to receive the fix, it does require the vehicle to be turned on in good cellular coverage. There will not be a pop-up message.”
While thankfully no injuries were reported, Jeep’s fiasco is another reminder of the growing pains of technology.
