LG Display has been manufacturing OLED panels with its RGB Tandem design since the beginning of this year, when the technology was first announced. While this new panel type has been utilized in OLED TVs, the company has now launched the world’s first computer monitor featuring the new four-stack panel.
“Introducing LG’s first gaming monitor powered by 4th Gen OLED with revolutionary Primary RGB Tandem technology – reaching up to 1500 nits of peak brightness for visibly clearer gameplay,” says LG. “In fast-paced or sunlit in-game scenes, enhanced APL and reduced ABL help maintain consistent luminance without dimming critical visuals.”
The LG 27GX700A is a 27-inch gaming monitor with a 2560×1440 resolution and a refresh rate of 280Hz. In addition to being DisplayHDR TrueBlack 500 certified, the monitor features an expanded color gamut and a peak brightness of 1500 nits. Compared to previous OLED panel designs, LG claims that the structure of its RGB Tandem panels improves maximum brightness and efficiency by increasing the amount of light produced by each layer of the panel. The panel is comprised of four stacks: two layers of blue elements and independent layers of red and green elements.
Connectivity options for the new monitor include two HDMI ports and one DisplayPort 1.4. While the new monitor is only available in a 27-inch design, LG says its RGB Tandem panel will soon come to more monitors in an expanded range of sizes. The LG 27GX700A is available now in the US.
