Korean news outlet ZDNet has reported that LG is considering purchasing QD-OLED panels from Samsung Display. Currently, Samsung is utilizing LG’s WOLED panels, which could help close the QD-OLED negotiations.
ZDNet reports that the panels currently being discussed are Samsung’s 27-inch 4K QD-OLED panel. FlatPanelsHD points out that LG Display announced its own 27-inch 4K WOLED panels with RGB-stripe pixels at the end of last year, though it’s entirely possible that LG wishes to utilize Samsung’s panels for a separate use case.
“According to multiple sources in the component industry on April 6, LG Electronics is currently in discussions with Samsung Display to source 27-inch 240Hz UHD (4K) QD-OLED panels for monitors,” ZDNet reports (translated from Korean). “Although nothing has been finalized yet, supply could begin as early as the fourth quarter of this year.”
