Video compression and streaming company Ateme has announced that it has partnered with Focal Point VR to launch the world’s first immersive, 8K 3D streaming experiences. Ateme claims that their breakthrough will allow users to feel like they are experiencing a concert or sporting event live and in person by taking advantage of Focal Point VR’s 3D 8K panoramic camera system.

For now, the technology is coming to the Apple Vision Pro, whose 37 pixels-per-degree fidelity Ateme says was the benchmark for the new streaming system. The company says that matching the Apple Vision Pro’s fidelity was previously only possible in post-production, but will now be possible during live streaming. This is thanks in part to Ateme’s Titan encoder, which processes and streams high-resolution stereoscopic video directly in Apple’s MV-HEVC format.
“This innovation marks a pivotal moment for live immersive content,” said Jonathan Newth , CEO at Focal Point VR. “By enabling real-time, ultra-high-fidelity 3D streaming, we’re redefining what’s possible in live broadcasting.”
