Meta Quest 3 revealed

Slimmed-down form with bulked-up power.

Meta has finally officially revealed its next-gen VR headset, the Meta Quest 3. CEO Mark Zuckerberg demoed the device for the first time right before the Meta Quest Games Showcase.

During the demo, Zuckerberg confirmed that the Quest 3 builds on the technology of the Quest Pro, but with a next-gen Quallcom chipset. Like the previous iteration, the Quest 3 offers full-color passthrough mixed reality, but, according to Zuckerberg, with “twice the graphics performance” of the Quest 2.

In an effort to make things feel more natural, the Quest 3’s controllers have been redesigned, now forgoing the outer ring of previous models. They come stock with haptic feedback capabilities, and the device supports hand tracking from launch. Much like the controllers, the headset its self has been slimmed down, with Zuckerberg stating that it is “more comfortable” and “40 percent slimmer” than the previous version.

The Quest 3 starts at $499 for the base 128GB model, and will be available this fall. In addition to the Quest 3 news, Zuckerberg announced that, starting June 4, the Quest 2 will go back to $300 for the 128GB model ($350 for 256GB) after last year saw the prices raised $100.
