After announcing that it would be laying of 6,000 employees last month, Microsoft shows no sign of slowing down, with Washington’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) layoff and closure database showing 305 additional layoffs.
The 6,000+ layoffs affect all sectors of Microsoft, including other properties owned by the company, such as LinkedIn. Shortly before the downsizing was announced, Microsoft CFO Amy Hood foreshadowed by stating, “We continue to focus on building high-performing teams and increasing our agility by reducing layers with fewer managers.”
In a comment to GeekWire, Microsoft confirmed that the 305 job cuts this month are separate from the 6,000 announced in May.
“We continue to implement organizational changes necessary to best position the company for success in a dynamic marketplace,” Microsoft spokesperson Pete Wootton told The Verge in response to an inquiry regarding the company’s downsizing.
