Microsoft is reversing its remote work policy, according to an internal email sent to employees earlier this week. The company informed its workers that they will be required to be in office at least three days a week beginning in February.
The move comes just months after Microsoft made sweeping layoffs across the company, cutting its numbers by over 6,000. This new return to office mandate will roll out in phases, with February seeing all employees within 50 miles of the company’s Redmond, Washington office required to be present three days a week.
According to the email from Microsoft HR Chief Amy Coleman, this will then expand to other US locations over time, and eventually international offices as well. Employees have until September 19 to request an exemption.
