Minecraft, the video game phenomenon that being transformed into a major motion picture early next year, will be entering the real world in the form of amusement parks in the US and UK. Merlin Entertainments, the British company behind the various Legoland parks, has announced a $110 million investment in the first two Minecraft-themed parks, scheduled to open between 2026 and 2026. The company says it plans on then expanding to other locations globally. The project is being undertaken as part of a global partnership between Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios, creator of Minecraft.
“This will include the development of first-of-its-kind concepts for Minecraft-themed guest accommodation, retail, and food & beverage, alongside exciting experiences – including a Minecraft-themed ride – at Merlin locations in these two countries,” reads Merlin’s announcement. “This collaboration aligns with Merlin’s strategy to engage and work with leading IP and brands across its estate, establishing successful partnerships to bring these to life in key locations across the world.”
