Netflix is killing off the ability to cast to screen from mobile devices via the streaming platform’s app. Support for Apple Airplay been absent for the last several years, and the streaming service has now ended support for Google Cast, as reported by Android Authority.
Users have taken to the internet the last several weeks to report that their preferred way to stream Netflix had suddenly stopped working, with recent software updates removing the option completely. In response, Netflix released the following statement:
“Netflix no longer supports casting shows from a mobile device to most TVs and TV-streaming devices. You’ll need to use the remote that came with your TV or TV-streaming device to navigate Netflix.”
While users report that Netflix casting is still working on classic Chromecast devices, this will not be the case for long. Support for the discontinued Chromecast has been on a steady decline, and users are encouraged to figure out another option for enjoying the streaming platform.
