Pro-Ject unveils ultra-luxury $15,000 turntable

The Signature 12.2 Flagship Turntable takes two days to hand-assemble and polish its 100+ CNC-machined components

There’s a new high-end vinyl turntable to rule them all: Australian hi-fi brand Pro-Ject has unveiled its Signature 12.2 Flagship Turntable. The 12.2 caps out Pro-Ject’s new ultra-luxury Signature line at a price point of $15,000, featuring hand-mounting and polishing of all 100+ CNC machined parts. Pro-Ject says the Signature line was developed to “research different high-end turntable technologies, improve our reference designs and the have these features trickle down to our more affordable record players.”

The new turntable is comprised of a 23 lb aluminum platter, coated with a 3mm top of vinyl to form the mat. The platter is then precision-balanced and damped with a TPE ring on the bottom side. CNC machining is claimed to rid the player of unwanted resonances, while the ceramic ball bearing, stainless steel shaft and magnetic support are designed to provide smooth rotation of the record platter.

According the Pro-Ject, highlighted features include:

  • 3-point pivot tonearm bearing construction
  • Modified counterweight system
  • Motors mounted in full aluminum motor block
  • Stylish rounded corners of the plinth
  • Spring-loaded spike feet adjustable from the top
  • Mass-loaded plinth, high-mass record platter
  • Magnetically decoupled record platter
  • Resonance-optimized aluminum alloy
  • Inverted main bearing with ceramic ball
  • Belt-driven flywheel design
  • High gloss hand-polished aluminum surfaces
  • Handmade in Europe
