Some Sonos Roam owners have taken to the internet to share that their speakers have overheated when charging, Bloomberg reports. Posts on Reddit and social media tell stories of melted USB-C ports, backed up by images and replies by other users sharing similar stories. Several users have reported that Sonos had offered to replace their speaker, acknowledging the issue.
Sonos confirmed that it is aware the issue, telling Bloomberg, “We’ve closely tracked a limited number of reports involving the USB-C charging connection on some first-generation Sonos Roam speakers.”
“While the overall incidence rate is very low, and environmental conditions appear to play a role, we’ve taken several proactive steps to even further reduce the likelihood of this issue, including software updates and hardware improvements,” Sonos comments.
It’s recommended that owners of the first-gen Sonos Roam do not leave the speaker unattended when charging. Sonos also recommends that the latest software be downloaded, as firmware updates may have helped with the issue.
