
Samsung co-CEO Han Jong-hee has died ate age 63 of a heart attack, the company announced. Han joined Samsung in 1988, rising through the company to become head of product research and development for the visual display division in 2011. He became the head of Samsung DX in 2021 before becoming CEO and Vice-Chairman in 2022.
According to CNBC, Samsung credits Han with aiding Samsung’s rise in the global TV industry, as well as contributing to the company’s overall growth in challenging times.
“Our deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” Samsung said.
Han’s co-CEO Young-Hyun Jun is now the sole CEO of Samsung. It is currently unknown if this configuration will be permanent, or if the company plans to appoint another co-CEO.
