At AWE USA 2026, Samsung Display has debuted a 1.3-inch, 40,000-nit RGB micro-OLED (Samsung calls it OLEDoS) display.
“Unlike white OLEDoS, RGB OLEDoS does not require a color filter, enabling higher light efficiency and longer lifespan. These advantages make it highly suitable for delivering excellent color reproduction and high brightness,” explains Samsung. “This is why RGB OLEDoS is considered an optimal solution for XR devices, which require sharp image quality in compact and lightweight form factors.”
This panel doubles the brightness of Samsung’s micro-OLED from last year, which was rated at 20,000 nits. The engineering of XR headsets typically means that not all light from the display will ultimately reach the user’s eyes, which means that greater image quality relies on higher brightness from these displays. For comparison, the Apple Vision Pro’s micro-OLED panels are capable of about 5,000 nits.
